shareI don't know what you mean by "notoriety." Surely Ray is quite well-known, if only to art houses or university cinema archives audiences. (You do not expect the multiplex audiences to know of him, do you?)
I've seen him listed whenever "great film directors" of the past are listed. I had only seen the Pather Panchali trilogy up to now.
Just saw Jalasghar (thank you Criterion) and loved it.
