Okay Steve, I'll try and answer your questions as best I can...

#1. When Jennie fell off the (ladder? or balcony?), did she die from the fall, or from the complications that followed of being moved by Jen-Ai before being examined by the doctor?

If you watch the film again closely you will note that she was dead before the doctor arrived and probably dead before Jen-Ai reached her.

#2. Why were women's feet bound? What did they look like when they were unbound?

Foot binding for Chinese girls was an ancient custom. In earlier times Chinese people considered that a woman having large feet was ugly. Therefore the feet of young girls were bound to stop them growing. If you have the stomach for it there are many pictorial references relating to the tradition on the web...just Google it.

#3. Who portrayed the "Candle Dancers"?

Professional Chinese dancers hired specifically for the task in HK, I have been told.

#4. Did anyone feel sorry for the poor mules being startled by the explosions? (Not the mules in Jen-Ai's time, but the mules on the movie set.)

Of course! Although you need to remember that codes of conduct relating to animals on set were still a bit open to interpretation in England and Wales in the late 50s. It's only been in the last few decades that "animal performers" are protected on set by strict rules in the US and most western nations. Heaven help the poor animals on sets not controlled by these regulations!

#5. What was the passage that Jen-Ai read at Li's funeral?

No idea...
