underrated Bergman movie

This is one of my favorites of hers since the first time I saw it. I wish it was better known. Bergman should have gotten an Oscar nod for her performance as well.

I so agree.

Ingrid Bergman should have definitely received an Oscar nomination for this film. She is the film. Curt Jurgens mannerisms were a little too wooden (abrupt) at times, but I liked his character more and more as the movie went on.

The music was done by Malcolm Arnold, who also scored "The Bridge on the River Kwai" - you can hear the same orchestrations (symphonic crescendoes, if that is the correct terminology), as "Bridge" had.

"This Old Man" was always a favorite of mine - I remember it back from the late 1950s, when Mitch Miller and his gang had a big hit recording of it. Goodness, I am giving away my age.

My family and I love this movie! We watch it over, and over, and never tire of it. :)

I hadn't watched it until recently because it seemed so long, but it was a very good film. Bergman is luminous.
