Malcolm Arnold + 'This Old Man'

When I heard the extensive use of the song "This Old Man" in this film, I remembered that several years ago I saw a different film I'm pretty sure was also scored by Malcolm Arnold which also used "This Old Man" as part of the story and which also used the song in the underscoring, but I can't for the life of me remember which one, even from Arnold's IMDb list. Anyone else notice it and remember which movie it was?

(No, it wasn't "The Bridge Over the River Kwai" -- yet another Arnold movie that used a well-known, but different, song in the plot and underscoring.)

Maybe you're thinking of the Christmas carol "We Three Kings", which Arnold incorporated into his score for "Whistle Down The Wind" in 1961.

reply

Nope, definitely not We Three Kings, but you make me interested in seeing Whistle Down the Wind. Thanks for your reply.

A frog walks into a bank. He approaches the counter & sees the teller's name is Patricia Wack.

Frog tells Patricia "My name is Kermit Jagger, Mick Jagger is my father & your manager knows both of us. I would like to borrow a thousand dollars."

He then produces a tiny ornamental elephant from his pocket & says "I am willing to leave this as security."

Patricia takes the ornament to the manager's office & says "A frog who says his name is Kermit Jagger wants to borrow a thousand dollars. He offered this as security. What the hell is it anyway?"

The bank manager picks up the elephant, looks at it & throws it to Patricia, saying:

"It's a knick knack, Patty Wack, give the frog a loan,
His old man's a Rolling Stone."
