Genuine tears?

I saw this and thought her tears were really convincing in that scene would it have something to do with the actor's real life cancer battle?

Do you mean Bergman's battle with breast cancer? She wasn't diagnosed with cancer until about 1974... so she obviously wasn't affected at this point by anything cancer-related. What scene do you mean?

I think that in this movie, Ingrid seemed more "real" and "tangible" than in any other film she made.

Sorry I meant Donat's battle, in the scene where she says goodbye to him in that room the emotion was very strong, I thought they were genuine because in real life Bergman knew Donat was dying and it was really like saying goodbye.

Oh, I see! Did he have cancer? I always thought he has some sort of chronic asthma... But it was a very moving scene.

I'm not sure my Granny told me he died of cancer before the film was finished.

It ia certainly said that many of the film crew were in tears when Robert Donat filmed the farewell speech as it was known that he was dying. Even watching it, in the knowledge of what was to follow, is quite poignant

I just thought that I would add this from Wiki:
His biographer Kenneth Barrow writes on the cause of his death: "Perhaps the asthma had weakened him but, in fact, it was discovered he had a brain tumour the size of a duck egg and cerebral thrombosis was certified as the primary cause of death."
