Phyllis Calvert

Did anyone else notice that Phyllis Calvert's entire dialogue was looped? Meaning that she had to redo her lines after filming and make the dialogue match her mouth movements?

Yes, loved the apartment and the ballgowns and jewels.

Yes, I notice this every time I see it and it irritates the hell out of me every time, too!!! I wonder why she had to do that. I actually came here today to check the trivia, because I assumed there would be something there about it. Nothing, though.

Her husband died during the filming maybe she wasn't always up to doing her best work.
See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051773/trivia

Hope this helps.

I noticed that nearly ALL of the actors in this film dubbed their lines!!!! I don't know why this was?? I also noticed that Phyllis Calvert (English) said "Can't" as in "Ant" instead of "Can't" as in Aunt!!! (i.e. the American way)... And they also got Megs Jenkins to say "But I don't want to go to the movies" [at the beginning] when in those days English (or Welsh in her case) people would call it either "The Pictures" or "A Film" -- but never "the Movies"... They were all forced to speak "American"... I wonder why this was?

I thought the British called it "the cinema".

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!

It seemed like a lot of movies from the 50s and 60s had a lot of looped dialogue. I wonder why. I know Orson Welles looped dialogue a lot in his films--Touch of Evil for instance--brilliant film but full of dubs--nearly the entire film in fact.

It kind of bugged me in this one--I think because Calvert looped her scenes while the other actors didn't for the most part. If everything is dubbed there's a sort of continuity, but when you hear alternating dialogue between characters (looped, live, looped, live...) it gets distracting.

I think the only lines from here that were "live" were when she tells Bergman in the taxi that Cary's married.

"Who's running this airline?!"
