North Africa connection

I have an idea but just wanted confirmation of where the movie was filmed and what was the name of the hotel where Monty made a surprise visit to meet the Americans and press.

Set in North Africa but shot in the UK and Gibraltar—including the Governor's Residence—I think. No idea about the hotel. Maybe the residence itself!
