Why list this film under another name?

One of my favourite British war films, and yes, I know that 'I Was Monty's Double' needed an alternative title for exhibition in the USA because its citizens might be puzzled as to who this 'Monty' might have been! That is fair and reasonable, and I recollect the scene from the film, which I saw at the cinema at the time of its release, where its American title can be found. What I am unable to understand is the current trend for British films to be listed on IMDB under their US titles. Surely this is unnecessary? David Niven in 'Stairway to Heaven' (1946)? Richard Todd in 'Battle Hell' (1957)? Surely the name of the film should be given as per release in the country of origin, and the 'aka' title as the alternative more meaningful title for overseas.

You make a sound, irrefutable point, john.kemp3.

I whole-heartedly agree. It makes my blood boil. What has this new revised title got to do with the subject matter of the film? And it has happened with so many other British movies of the 1950s. Were American audiences so impossibly stupid that they needed to be patronised in this fashion? It's also an insult to British culture. I hope someone high up at IMDB.com takes notice.

You have "hit the nail on the head". American audiences are impossibly stupid. Of course the Jewish-controlled Hollywood is also patronizing and arrogant in its approach to all audiences.

Surely it is possible to dicuss this point without resorting to ignorant racism.

I agree, plus... 'Hell, Heaven or Hoboken' is even more stupid a title than its Brazilian one, 'O Homem que Enganou o Mundo' ('The Man Who Cheated the World'...)
