For the Oscar for best actress for this film! Noted on her credits that she was nominated for the Golden Globe, but really--what was the competition that year? I have to look it up---but anyway, I am emotionally drained just watching her act in this film!

I'll second that. Far superior to her somewhat similar work in "The Happy Ending," which did get her a nomination.

Have it on in the background on TCM right now. She had some tough competition. MacLaine and Kerr weren't doing their best, but were in Academy favorites that year. Hayward, Russell, and Taylor were undeniable. And Ingrid Bergman gave two performances that year that were omitted, not to mention Joanne Woodward, Shirley Booth, Mitzi Gaynor, and Kim Stanley.
