Delusions?

So I'm not entirely sure, but I'm assuming that it wasn't all a conspiracy. Did they drug her and try and make her go insane, or did she have a breakdown imagining a conspiracy and because of her desperation to please her husband? It was never made clear whether the husband and Joan actually had an affair or not, or did I miss something? I think I might have to watch this movie again.

I was under the impression that her husband and Joan were avoiding an all-out affair and sabotage of Charlotte's condition (maybe deluding themselves into thinking they were being noble), yet since those things were what they wanted deep down, they fed Charlotte's instability which got them closer to having her out of their way. She needed people like Diamond and Hamilton Gregory around her because they cared about her and her best interests.

This film will be on TCM again in the early morning on March 14th (3:15am Central time).

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.
