This film needs to be shown again!

Saw this film a number of years ago but haven't seen it since and it's not on dvd. It's a fine film with a good performance by Jean Simmons. It's too bad warners is not showing it on tv. I've heard its been out of circulation because they lost the negative but a poor version is better than no version. Heard some rumors it is going to be released through Warner Archive. Hope it's true.

I have a very good DVD copy of "Home Before Dark" that I could sell you for $20.00.

I have a VHS copy my mother recorded for me off OETA movie night a long time ago. During commercial breaks the host (I forgot his name) would give interesting tidbits about the movie. The dangerously freezing weather they had to film the movie in for example. I wish the movie industy seemed more interested in refreshing these older films and selling them to the public. Instead you have to dig and dig to find decent copies of these rare classics, or wait for a station to put in on the air to be recorded.

Sorry for such late notice, just saw it listed for this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. eastern time on TCM. I've heard of this film, but pretty sure I've never seen it.

Hope those who want to see this just happen to be on this board...

Thank you clore 2. I've been waiting for this film to be shown for years, and wouldn't you know I had to miss it. I've been trying to find out when it would be shown again, but had no luck until your post. Thanks again, You can be sure I won't miss it next time,

Hi, I hope you can catch this on time. It's coming on TCM tonight 8:00pm-10:30pm EST.

Wasn't it wonderful? As someone said in another thread, it is very slow-moving for this day and age, but the payoff is powerful! In his biography, My Dinner of Herbs, Zimbalist has some interesting comments on this film and the experience of making it.

The film was finally released through Warner Archive. It was as good as I remembered it. For any Jean Simmons fans get it! You won't be disappointed.

Not only does Jean Simmons give one of her best performances in this film, but the performance by Rhonda Fleming shows what an under-rated and under-utlised actress she was ... I wrote to he a few years back telling her how much I liked the film, and got a very charming reply .. class act. Perhaps another example of lush beauty getting in the way of finding appropriate roles.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

It's on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) this afternoon...I've neve seen it and just stumbled onto it.

TCM has shown it a couple of times.....and every times I miss it from the beginning and end up where it is now--when she buys the dress and changes her hair.

I really like Jean Simmons, I think she is very underrated.

Yes! I have always loved this film. I doesn't seem to have ever become available in any of the home entertainment media, I don't know why, exactly. I do know that the film has been loved by many people. I first saw it as a 'late-late show' when I was about 14. Later I saw it when I was about 20. Since then it seems to have completely disappeared.
