I don't believe Tiomkin worked on "3:10 to Yuma". There is no mention of it in a book I have on my favourite movie composer. The melancholic, forboding theme was certainly recognizable in "Good Day for a Hanging" - appropriate for this script, but distracting at the same time as my head kept repeating the lyrics.
Now, if we can find another Columbia western where they used the George Duning stock music, the piece can take on a life of its own like Alfred Newman's "Street Scene".
The music is composed by George Duning, and the lyrics are by frequent Tiomkin collaborator, Ned Washington. He rhymes rumor with Yuma. Frankie makes it work.
It's amazing what a good singer I am when no one is listening.
