Who says this film cost only $5,000.00?

I've encountered the claim of a $5,000 budget among some of the IMDb commentators. I don't believe the film could have cost as low as $5.000.00, even for a 1958 film. THE GODDESS had many locations, respectable production values, and the nightmare cost for poor filmmakers in the old days was film stock and lab costs. It looks like THE GODDESS was shot on expensive 35mm; even 16mmm would have jacked up the budget to well over $5,000, leaving little in the kitty for the myriad of production costs. (And this film had some "names," such as the screenwriter, Paddy Chayefsky, well after the success of "Marty," as well as Lloyd Bridges, who was big enough by this time to star in the TV series "Sea Hunt." They would not have worked for free.)

For perspective, I remember the story regarding how Roger Corman got his start as a producer. He wrote some TV script, selling it for some $20,000, and this was his production budget (Internet sources I checked now claim this film cost from $12,000-$18,000) for the ultra-cheap, six-day shooting scheduled MONSTER FROM THE OCEAN FLOOR, only four years earlier than THE GODDESS. The amateurish MONSTER FROM THE OCEAN FLOOR looked like it cut many corners, unlike the far more professional THE GODDESS.

According to the book Female Brando: The Legend of Kim Stanley by Jon Krampner, the film's budget was $600,000, which sounds a lot more plausible than $5,000.
