Fay Spain was Terrific

The always terrific Fay Spain stole this movie from the other women,
including Tina Louise, who was also very good. But Spain, as "Darlin'
Jill", was really captivating. She should've been nominated for a Best
Supporting Oscar. She was also great in "Capone" with Rod Steiger. Too
bad she didn't have a long movie career.

I think you'll find most men think Tina Louise was a lot sexier and a lot more charismatic than Fay Spain.

But she can't act her way out of a paper bag.

That's your opinion. It's not mine.

That's stating the obvious.

I'm a woman and thought they both were very sexy and charasmatic in this film. Fay's role was a lot more over the top and fun, and she pulled it off very well. Tina's was more sudued in her in her sexuality and character, and she pulled it very well also.

I agree with endiadj that both were terrific and Oscar nominations for both would have been in order. Fay and Buddy Hackett were terrific in that bathing scene. Tame by today's standards but more shocking in the 50s.

Fay comes into the movie great guns with that bath tub scene (out in the yard!) and I thought even better was her seduction of albino Michael Landon but other than the fun bit in her rich brother's house the movie pretty much pushes her into a background character after that point. We could have used more of Darlin' Jill that's for sure.

I loved Tina Louise in this though and she certainly held her own, as did Helen Westcott in the smallish role as Jill's sister Roslyn which at first comes across as a bit part but then is really showy once husband Aldo Ray gets drunk in town with her brothers. Fun as Fay was and impressive as Helen became, I still say Tina Louise owns this movie as far as the actresses go.
