I am answering a really old post, but if you still haven't found the movie here is one reason why:
the lady starring in the movie is Lauren Bacall, NOT McCall!! If looking for the movie, this could be a reason why you may not have found it!
I saw this movie when I was about in my early 20s probably around 1952 & I'm guessing it was on one of the "Movie nights" on TV..such as 'Playhouse 90' or
'G E Theatrem since that was where I saw most of the good movies of the day. Had just gotten married and pregnant and hubby gave me a TV for Christmas, since in those days, doing the job which I did, you couldn't work once they learned you were pregnant, because the ins. would not cover you if you had an accident which interfered w/the pregnancy.
This movie has long been #1 on my list of "Best Movies" & I would love to see it again" I was filling out a profile earlier today which asked for Favorite movie and I came here to make sure that my memory of who the actors were was correct.
I do not remember seeing anything else with the young Evelyn Rudie, who played Hittie; but she certainly made an impression on me in this movie. I would love to see it again... Am going to look for a copy.
