Plot Questions (Possible Spoilers)

1- Did I miss something or did the Dr. tell Lauren Bacall she had a condition that she could manage with rest? It seems after the phony cast she was recovered and there were no scenes of her getting weak or ill again until she collapses. The next scene shes dead.

2- I find it so weird that Hitty calls the orphanage and says "come and get me, he does not want me anymore" and they take the word of a child and come and get her. Where did Bill think she went? Was he there when they picked her up or did she just disappear? He knew when he calls the orphanage to make sure shes OK that shes there, just seems choppy to me.

I'm a big fan of these kinds of films and know they take liberties with the plots to make the story exciting, but here I feel like something was edited out or a scene missing. Anyone have any thoughts?

I agree with all your points but I think what really bothered me was the DOCTOR letting her light up in his office after telling her that her heart was bad and then later actually LIGHTING her cigarette for her! LOL Thanks Doc!

This movie was released in 1958 when most doctors smoked and drank lots of alcohol like anybody else did. You have to watch this considering the time it is set.
Even Dr. Richard Kimble, "The Fugitive", did smoke (he was a pediatrician), this was in 1967.
Not smoking is a big improvement, but actually it didn't start that long ago. I remember sitting in movie theaters in the nineties where smoking was still allowed. On airplanes on trans-atlantic flights to the US Lufthansa had a smoking and a non-smoking section (this was in 1995), but no door in-between the two sections to keep the smoke from the non-smokers.
