Original screenplay predates book

Unlike what is written in the comments, 'Es geschah am hellichten Tag' had an original story and screenplay by Swiss author Friedrich Duerrenmatt.

Only after this production, Duerrenmatt thought he could make more out of it and so he wrote a novel based on his own screenplay, called 'Das Versprechen - Requiem auf den Kriminalroman' (1958).

Later films like 'In the cold light of day' (1996) and 'The Pledge' (2001) are based on the book, not on the original 1958 screenplay.
