"En cas de malheur" means "In case of bad luck" but what does it mean to the story? Is it a French idiom that has some deeper meaning?

I'm curious either. I watched few times and still wonder what the hell what does the title really mean. Maybe we should read the book to get know, but there's no copy in my language (I'm Polish).

I don't think it means bad luck although there is a lot of that in the movie. Certainly Love is My Profession is a bad English title. I've read that it's been called several other names: In Case of Trouble, In Case of Emergency, In Case of Accident, In Case of Adversity.... What I gather is that the Attorney Lucien Gobillot wants to keep a record or account for the circumstances "in case there is trouble." "It's not so much guilt, more a gnawing certainty that things are going to end badly - and on a damp, gloomy Sunday, he decides to open a file on himself."
This movie is not readily available in US. It may have been on TCM or TV5. You can get the DVD from moviedetective.net.
I'm not sure whether "bad luck" is accurate. At least when the French word malheur is used among German speakers it refers to some sort of adverse fate, adversity, disaster, mishap or accident. I'm sorry I don't speak French either, but does "en cas de" really mean "in case of" or "a case of"? "A case of adverse fate" would sound plausible to me.
