BRING THE SENATORS BACK TO WASHINGTON

We miss them so! Even though I was not alive when they we're in town, PLEASE, WE WANT OUR BASEBALL TEAM BACK!

"HEY, WHA'HAPPEND?"

You will most likely get the Expos from Montreal and San Juan, but they will be a National League East team. I wouldn't be surprised if they are renamed the Senators.

But they won't play the Yankees very often.

If you want a favorite perennial loser of an American League team to cheer on, then look to (deleted because it is no longer relevant).

Well, it's going to happen; the Expos will be in Washington next year.

... And last in the National League East!

I was so excited to see Washington DC get their franchise back but who in the hell made the decision to call them the NATIONALS ???

When the National Hockey League added the Ottawa Senators, my first thought was, "How dare they?"

Then, I realized that Canada at least HAD a team in their national capitol. Actually, that name goes back to the 1930s.

reply

And the name "Nationals" was actually another name for the Washington Senators...

reply

If people keep on calling the new team the "Senators," I could see the name being re-adopted. I think that the Texas Rangers have the rights to the name, which is pretty crazy.

The Washington Senators get a one liner in "The Major and the Minor"....I always feel a little twinge of nostalga when I here it.....

Not really.

The original Washington Senators moved west in the 50's. It was this time that a lot of teams (the Giants, the Dodgers, the A's, the Braves, etc.) left the East Coast for places farther west. The first Senators team are, now, the Minnesota Twins.

In the 60's, when major league baseball went through it's first expansion since the American and National Leagues combined to become what we, now, know as Major League Baseball ... in the late 1800's, someone decided that the Nation's capital should have a team representing the "national pastime", and the second iteration of the "Washington Senators" was born. This team existed for a number of years, and had similar fortunes as the first Senators. (bad) Then, a group of investors enticed the owners to move west. Where the Senators became the Texas Rangers ... and have sucked as much as the original Senators ever did.

In the 1920's, the era of Babe Ruth, where the home run first, really, became part of the game, the Senators' owner was Clark Griffiths, the son of the founder of the team. Clark told a reporter: "The fans love home runs, and we have assembled a pitching staff to please our fans."

The Texas Rangers continue this tradition to this day.

What's frightening is that I am a Rangers fan.

That's not entirely true. A more accurate description is that the Rangers and I are in a sado-masochistic relationship.

Check the baseball standings to guess which one is the masochist.

To give you a hint, the only team worse than them in their division is the Seattle Mariners (they have the worst record in ALL of major league baseball).
