Saw it as a kid and...


...was mesmerized by Rod Steiger's performance. There was a scene when he was sitting on a sofa and one of the people he was holding hostage kept asking him a question and he just sat there and stared. It really affected me and made me believe that this was really happening, his performance was so good.

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

Yeah, it's one of the relatively few roles where he successfully resisted chewing the scenery - he's utterly compelling as the calm, ruthless mastermind in control of the situation. The rest of the cast is okay, too, with the exception of Inger Stevens whose frequent fits of hysteria look almost laughably fake.
