"Alright" is about the right word. I've seen several of director Andrew L. Stone's films (most recently "The Last Voyage") and - frankly - they all seem oddly cold and distant, as though he were trying too hard to be realistic, and forgetting to energize the film with drama and a certain sense of life "outside" the framework of the film's intent. So it's a rather tepid ride really, although it is filmed very nicely, and James Mason is his usual marvelous self.

Also, rod Steiger is trying too hard to "get it right" and the stiffness shows throughout. Neville Brand is - as usual - effective as the psycho henchman. The biggest "dud performance" in the film (one that almost totally sinks it for me) is Inger Stevens faux-hysteria throughout the film. It's way over-the-top and lacking any sense of being anything other than a part she's being paid to get through. It's excrutiating...

I couldn't disagree with you more!!! Inger Stevens was superb in this film. It's one I remember from childhood. It was always shown on WPIX. She was a troubled soul in real life and that surely came through on film!!! She was very similar to Elizabeth Montgomery in her dramatic style. Excruciating certainly not. While your entitled to your opinion. I've always felt Inger Stevens was a very underated talent.

The Rolf Video person's review was excellent. He was superb in his review of Cry Terror. That's exactly true. The clothes, the cars the actual 1958 footage of the city as it was. When people were civilized not ANIMALS!!! When you could go into the city.

Jonathan Hole who was in this said at a friend's funeral that this stunk on paper, but was generally facilitory in its presentation.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

I didn't care much for the soundtrack that seemed overly intrusive and at times inappropriate (some of it sounded like something out of a cheap horror/sci-fi) plus the voiceovers were kind of overbaked, not to mention clumsily deployed, considering that it suddenly appears half-way through the movie. The suspense held up nicely though and the thing never lagged. It's alright alright.
