Weird Olive DVD structure

I was examining the DVD structure of the Olive official DVD release. It's authored in a rather odd way.

There are 2 main video title streams. Each is a copy of the movie. One has the Olive company logo at the start of the stream and the 2nd stream does not. This 2nd stream without the logo is not referenced anywhere in the DVD's playback structure. The DVD size is a DVD-9, thus it has 2 layers. However, it only needs 1 layer as the size of each stream is small enough to fit on a DVD-5, single layer DVD.

This prompted me to check out the DVD structure of the only other Olive Films DVD release I have, The Hellstrom Chronicle. That, too, is oddly authored.

There's only 1 main video title stream, the movie itself. However, there is a 2nd smaller stream also included that is like just the first 5 minutes of the movie only!

I am beginning to think these weird authoring choices are a rather lame attempt at trying to defer copying of these discs. By making them DVD-9's, people making 1:1 copies of these discs would have use a DVD-9, which is a more expensive media blank than a DVD-5. However, the cost is still low enough that most people would just use a DVD-9 blank to make a copy, so, it makes little sense.
