Was Maggie really barren?

I was a bit confused about that. I couldn't figure out if she was barren, which is why she never got pregnant before the entire Skipper situation, or if she and Brick didn't have kids simply because he was constantly denying her. Any thoughts?

Maggie states very early that she has been to a doctor, who told her there's no reason they can't have children. So, the fault is that Brick won't make love to her. Obviously, he did early in their marriage then stopped. However, not all women are impregnated for a while. Some try for years, while some become pregnant quickly.

So, it's simply a matter of time for Maggie and Brick.

Thanks for clearing that up!

You're welcome!

I was watching the film as I was typing and came across your question just about the time Maggie told Brick about seeing the doctor.

Amazing movie!!!!!!

Burl Ives was born in the next county over from us, so this region has a lot of pride in his brilliant career. What a remarkable man he was, and such a powerful actor! That's quite a leap from folksinger to acting, especially tackling some of the tough roles he did.

As for Maggie and Brick: I picture them having one or two children, not the mob that his brother produced.

Those kids would have an interesting pedigree.
