That’s a very interesting mixture of poetry and meanness.
I thought she was actually very subtle due to the death of her husband. The grief she was dealing with served her performance extremely well in this.

Correct! This is one of her best performances, and very much aided by the control she had to exert, to get through it, in the wake of Mike Todd's death.
It doesn't hurt that she'd almost never be as slender again onscreen as she is as Maggie. (grief helped her acting and her looks!)
I know you like Liz slender but I thought she looked better a few years later in Butterfield 8, much prefer the curves Denis!!

Oh, no, I love zaftig Liz! And all the crazy movies she did AS zaftig Liz.
But let's face it--the first extra pounds went right to her jawline. In person it wasn't so noticeable. (She was really gorgeous in the flesh) However, the camera catches what the eye doesn't see.

I normally try not to respond to negative posts, but I just watched the film on Turner last night. In my opinion, Elizabeth was wonderful, the definitive Maggie the Cat.

shareFunny, but the one single, sole thing that bothers me most about Elizabeth's performance is the scene in which she delivers the film's title.
She says it like it's .... a title. Which of course it is, but it wouldn't be to Maggie when she tosses the line out to Brick.
She should instead search briefly for her metaphor's adjectives. But she doesn't.
Yes, but that was the acting prevailing during that period of movies, so she toed the line. To me, she was perfect as Maggie,and honestly cannot imagine anyone else to have done it better at the time. I'm also glad someone here mentioned Butterfield 8 which is really extraordinary performance and every bit deserving of her Oscar! I was never really impressed with her turn in Giant (which could very well have a lot to do with the fact that I'm not a fan of the movie itself). However, after all the positive comments made here, I think I'm gonna give it another try!

Dear Tony,,I disagree, "Giant" was quiet fine grained performance spanning many years "Cat" was a few feverish days--EVERYBODY was desperate and over the top!
