Police Academy
I remember seeing this on telly when I was a kid, and thinking "hang on - the first Police Academy film totally ripped this off". Or is it just that the training montages, with people failing to clear obstacles and falling off ropes etc, are a comedy staple that predates even Carry on Sergeant? Perhaps even WW1, back to Rudyard Kipling?
The film itself is perfect bank holiday Sunday fare, and it's faintly surreal watching Bob Monkhouse assembling a Bren gun. But then again he *did* do National Service, so presumably he would have learned how to do it. Odd to think of Bob Monkhouse charging enemy lines with a Bren Gun and some bad jokes, but the past was strange.
