of course it's a silly film. but what makes it interesting is the realistic setting making it a social and historical document of it's time and place.
in some ways it does what "brittania hospital" tries to do, but without trying.

You see, in the end, our truest opinions are not the ones we have never changed...

Totally agree with you.

A few things jar these days ... like patients sitting in bed smoking cigars and cigarettes and the ban on children visiting ...

... but having spent time in hospital as a patient in the 1950s, 1980s and in the 2000s there is a lot I miss these days ... like professional nurses in proper uniforms giving patients full care and attention ... and lots of them on the ward, not just sitting at a nurse station doing paperwork ... the daily cleaning (when did you last see the surfaces wiped down and the vacuum cleaner pushed around) ... spending a week in a hospital bed for a broken wrist or a bunion removal.

Seeing a film like this in 2011 it just makes you realise quite how bad, dirty and impersonal our hospitals and medical care have become.
