Why is this movie not on DVD yet?
One would think, with all the recent pirate movie DVD releases in the wake of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean films, that this film would finally see at least a barebones release on DVD. But it has yet to even be discussed as an upcoming release.
I love this film. I've seen it a few different times on cable over the years, and I remember reading the Classics Illustrated version back in the late 70s, which I just devoured (Classics Illustrated were comic book versions of classic literature books, and they were usually pretty nicely done; since the movie was a remake of the 1938 Cecil B. Demille-directed adaptation of the 1930 Lyle Saxon novel "Lafitte the Pirate", they basically just adapted the movie! Here's a shot of the cover - http://www.classicscentral.com/pic9/ci148c.jpg).
The screenplay, direction, cast and production design are all top-notch, and the film is massively entertaining. This film seriously deserves a DVD release. Come on, Paramount! Let's see this film on DVD!
