I have to say, probably because I'm reading the book right now, that this film seems to be a mishmash mess compared to the book.
That said, there are some remarkable performances, given the script. Lee J. Cobb does the father's role very well, and Yull Brenner is stunning as the middle brother. Just looking at his beautiful face makes watching the film worthwhile!

I've only seen Yul in one or two films but the more I see of him the more I respect his work. I didn't even know who he was before I heard the off handed reference to him made by Nicholson's character in Easy Rider. He really played some great roles.
