Joyce Grenfell (dancing cheek to cheek with Terry-Thomas in a Parisien boite): 'The French are so romantic!'

Up there with Full Metal Jacket's 'Private Pyle, you're the kind of guy who'd *beep* another guy up the ass and not even give him the courtesy of a reacharound'.

Not 'gaffe' - but 'guff' - which at at least one Public School means 'fart' - but I doubt that's the sens it's used in here!

I've just remembered, the word is used in the the old comedy record 'Serutan Yob' by (ostensibly) Red Ingle and the Unnatural Seven - 'We threw some guff / About things and stuff / and this he said to me...'
