Words of wisdom from this movie

Growing up we had 3 old horror movies that I watched all the time, this, House on Haunted Hill from 1959 and The Bat from 1959 both with Vincent Price. And to me, there are pieces of dialogue in each movie that probably don't mean much to anybody else, but growing up they had a profound effect on me. One that always stuck with me from this movie was when everybody's gathered out in the street and Steve asks Dave flat out, "Do I look like somebody's playing a practical joke? Am I laughing? Or am I scared stiff?" always made plenty of sense to me, it just stood to reason anybody who WAS trying to pull a prank on people would NOT do it to that extent, least of all after being caught and shot down by the cops and everybody else every other time that night.

I also always liked the dialogue between Steve and Jane:

Steve: "How do you get people to protect themselves from something they don't believe in?"
Jane: "Well you keep trying, and hoping you find some kind of proof that'll convince them."

There's one that seems to hold true even today. At this time this might've just been another teenagers vs. monster from outer space kind of movie but to me it was always very serious and surprisingly deep.

I agree totally. I finally just watched the whole movie (been seeing it in bits and pieces for years) and those were the exact two points in dialogue that stuck out for me, too.
