yes, very tame indeed, i think of this more as sci-fi, the crashing down to earth looks like an old cartoon, when they are driving the car appears to stand still, the voices when outside sound like they come from a studio, and how did they not notice the police car when they were about to race, as this movie opened i recognised the tune so well but couldn't place it, but of course it's the blob, i had heard it for years on a movie hostess elvira cd, speaking of elvira, the mood of this movie reminded of eegah featured in several of her collections, the whole 1950s youth and their racing with their cars didn't appeal to me, though it's funny how the police in movies from this era let people off easy, like here after steve had been speeding on the wrong side of the road, driving backwards, the police - "what am i gonna do with you kids, you know i don't wanna haul you in.. get outta here.", it actually becomes scary though when, spoiler, the guy has turned into a blob, i just thought of something, if this had taken place during winter, the blob would never have been a threat, it's also dramatic how steve's role felt so lonely struggling to be believed, the blob at one moment reminds of what comes out of the bathtub in ghostbusters 2. it would have been nice if all the people the blob swallowed up was somehow brought back and have a happy ending, like if they were found when cutting open the blob or something, by the way, don't worry animal lovers, the dog makes it. cool how horror movie icon bela lugosi's name is featured on the theatre, bit weird though since he had passed on two years prior to when this movie was made. this was really set up for a sequel, well there was a sequel made decades later.

in coming summer breeze,
big brown hair blowing you walked back in,
stand out though in regular shirt and jeans,
filled that along my head a dream,
travellin earth map n lost islands with,
on clouds tripping n globe sailing,
return of you the ideal.
