great scene

observant fire chief to cop: "the diner is on fire"
Cop: "any suggestions on how to put it out?"
Fire chief: "nope"

ah 50s sci fi,always a good laugh

reply

No, it's

Bill: "The diner's on fire."
Dave: "Well, can we put it out?"
Bill: "Any suggestions? Anyway, not enough oxygen in there to keep a fire burning for 10 minutes."

reply

"... not enough oxygen in there to keep a fire burning for 10 minutes."

This line has never made any sense to me and I still wonder why it was said.

reply

If I remember correctly this was after the Police shot the electrical wire down from the pole to try and electrocute the blob?

The blob was shown completely covering the diner like a blanket. The line in context to the dialog was meant to suggest that there would be no breathable air inside the diner in a short time because the blob was pretty much "smothering" the diner and everything in it.

Whether that was actually possible or not, Well, The BLOB was a cheap sci-fi movie.

Guess she didn't like the cornbread either.

reply

Exactly, the Blob covered the whole diner, no air would pass through down to the people in the cellar through it.

reply

Surely the fire chief might suggest dousing it in water though!? It was a retarded scene
