The Big Bore, more like it

Just watched this over the weekend and man, what a snooze. Almost three hours long and you can sum up the plot in one sentence. I don't want to spoil anything in case someone has not seen this yet. I like all the actors in it and the scenery was nice, but they easily could have trimmed at least an hour from this and nothing would be affected. I had never even heard of it before and was just flipping channels when I saw this was starting soon on TCM. So I looked it up on here and saw, wow, a 7.9 score. That was good enough for me because I like westerns. I just kept on waiting for something to happen. Then after about two hours I thought to myself, it's almost over, so just finish it. I still had almost an hour to go. There were no surprises either. I am shocked it is so well-liked on IMDb here. I did not read all the online reviews but I am trying to find a negative one. I must be wrong but I still cannot recommend this sleepwalk of a film.

I could see CITIZEN KANE being another "big bore" in your estimation -- so, if you've never seen it, DON'T; I think it's one of the best motion pictures of all time and I'm far from alone in that belief, but it isn't for everyone, especially those who prefer action movies.

THE BIG COUNTRY is what used to be called ",a thinking man's movie." It's a character-driven story. Filled with nuances, metaphors and parallelisms which drive home many points about the best and worst of the human condition. I think you'd be better off watching straightforward action Westerns like RIO BRAVO (great oater, by the way) because everything you've said demonstrates the likelihood that the aforementioned "character-driven"-type films ain't your bag.

Did you know that you don't have to watch it?

One of the things I like about this movie, in addition to the story, the casting, the performances, the cinematography, and the music score, is that it takes its time and is thoughtful. Today's movies are exhausting with nearly continuous chasing and fighting.

The plot to any movie, novel, short story, even thesis paper, must be summed up in once sentence or the writer doesn't understand it.

Naw, great film - perfect Sunday afternoon matinee movie.

Yes.

If the film was that boring to you, surely you would not have watched it to the end. I have attempted to watch quite a few films that i though were garbage and could not get to the end of them.

I love this movie, but I think it is too long and slow. However, those may be tropes of epic. Plus I can't decide where I would cut it.
