I really wanted Tavernier to get off ...

(spoilers)
The way the story was told, I couldn't help empathizing with Tavernier. I was hoping for him to get away with his crime -- and at one point, I was terrified he might die in the elevator shaft.

On the other hand, I couldn't stand Florence. She was so imperious, bordering on nasty in the way she treated the common people around her (police, the drunk guy in the bar, the florist, the aide who spoke with her about taking care of her husband's affairs). I was hoping she would get caught.

And I really wanted that jerk who stole the car to get caught.
The girlfriend -- I'm not sure how I felt about her. Why was she so stupid as to keep going along with the idiot she was with, even when he did utterly reprehensible and astronomically stupid things? He tells her to get in a car he is about to steal right after he has just shot two innocent people, leaving them for dead, and she listens to him?

He treats her like dirt the whole time too until he needs a place to stay. I don't think the wife behaved badly to those people.
