Why does Rudolph stay after Anna's father gets his job offer rescinded?

I figure that he still loves Anna (as evidenced by his enthusiastic rush to her at the end) and staying near her family is his best shot at hearing from her or finding oit what has become of her.

He probably didn't know what the father did, either.

Yeah, I kind of hated the way it ended. But, I guess that would have been a whole other movie. With Anna's dad dying and Rudolph trying to get his job back. Ugh I wish there was a sequel.
