Which Sinbad movie has this scene?

I hope this isn't too general or sketchy. This movie's trailer was on the "Augustus" DVD and I was reminded of a favorite as a toddler. But which Sinbad is it from?

Sinbad is fighting, Errol Flynn-style, some half-invisible guy, behind a spectacular curtain of waterfall. They thread in and out of the water. There's some flashes of gold (from the swords?) from time to time.

If this is the right one, I'd love to own it!

Thanks for any info.

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

reply

Yep, it is The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad alright. They are searching for the waters of eternal youth that also give the power to become invisible. Of couse, somebody in the film manages to obtain it and Sinbad must fight the now invisible enemy! Very cool movie

reply

Maybe it's not from Sinbad series...
but anyways there's a piece of movie that stuck in my memory.

It is probably an excerpt of some horror / fantasy classic i guess. It was a teaser or something. Action is inside a dungeon, a castle or such. The characters are: a man (hero i suppose), a woman, a ghoul and a skeleton. The man got some blows from the ghoul (grim, zombie-like, in torn cloths, with hood on and the eyes glowing - if i remember right); now the ghoul slowly approaches the girl which is in the corner of the low level of dungeon. She screams as he nearly touches her. Suddenly another gallant appears - the skeleton. The ghoul leaves the girl and battles the skeleton. He somehow throws him at a glass window which collapses cutting lower half off of the skeleton. The girl rushes up - in the arms of the man. The ghoul now picks up his interest with the girl but something is wrong: the skeleton eagerly crawls towards him showing no traces of surrender. The ghoul is embarrassed. Everyone is terrified.

"The ghoul now picks up his interest with the girl but something is wrong: the skeleton eagerly crawls towards him showing no traces of surrender. The ghoul is embarrassed. Everyone is terrified." ... Not from any Harryhausen work that I am familiar with.

I have a question about a Sinbad film. I've just been watching The Seventh Voyage, and had thought that was the one, but was wrong.

I remember two scenes. One is to do with the sign of a star inside a sickle moon. I think Sinbad is to sail until he sees this in the sky(!).

In the second Sinbad is being shaved, and suddenly the barber holds the razor threateningly, as if to cut his throat. In fact, the two strike some deal.

I suspect it may be Sinbad the Sailor with Douglas Fairbanks Jr, but would appreciate any confirmation.

reply

This is from the Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. movie, Sinbad the Sailor. The sign was a symbol of the island of Deriabar, which was said to contain the treasure of Alexander, IIRC. Walter Slezak played the barber, Melik.

reply

Thanks a lot for that! I'd love to see it again, but it doesn't appear to be available on DVD.

reply

I don't think it's available on DVD at this time (hopefully eventually -- they did finally release King Kong on DVD :-P), but Turner Classic Movies airs it on occasion.

reply

Ok, my turn :-)

I seem to remember a sinbad movie that had a single floating beneath a ceiling of something that was like a maze? Sound at all familiar?

reply

Try looking into DVD Empire over the internet for it. Though if purchased, you may need a mutli region DVD player in order to watch it, you can pick one up from Dicksmith's if there's one nearby.

Hope this helps you...

reply

Thanks for the tip, Saxon Princess; however, Sinbad the Sailor doesn't seem to be available. I certainly couldn't find it.

reply

The "invisilbe guy" was the wizard Sokura (played by Tom Baker. The film Sinbad and The Eye of the Tiger.

reply

Right actor, wrong film. It was Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

reply

Another minor dtl .. the magician's Koura. Sokurah's the one in 7th Voyage (this msg board's) .. 'ts what I read on imdb, anyway.

reply

ok i got a new one. ive been looking for this one for ages from my childhood but i cant think of the name for the life of me.

theyre on some boat crossing the sea and theres ghosts in the dark sky and they all cant stand the noises and theyre going mad. they get to the island... theres a castle, the other thing i remember good was the pixie dust and this big fight on the beach with a cyclops and a 2 headed green monster. if ANYONE can name this movie ill be forever greatful. its driving me insane!! LOL

reply

It was JACK THE GIANT KILLER (1962).

As a matter of fact, this was producer Edward Small's attempt to recreate THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, and brought in the same Sinbad actor (Kerwin Mathews), the same actor playing the villain (Torin Thatcher) and the same director of 7TH VOYAGE, Nathan Juran. The one difference was the stop-motion. Instead of Ray Harryhausen, they were done by Jim Danforth, Gene Warren and Tim Barr.

reply

I have one too.

I know this is not a Sinbad movie and it is extremely hazy in my memory but there's loads of knowledgable people here so I might give it a try.

As I said it's extremely hazy but I remember it having a monkey for a start, plus a flying carpet. There is some guy who, along with the monkey, goes in search for a princess (? or some sort of stone, not too sure) and returns just in time for a fight. The monkey seems pretty clear but the rest of the story isn't at all, sorry.

Another thing I remember was the guy meeting an old man who had designed the mountains mechanically to blow fire and seem like massive monsters so he could scare everyone away but he was uncovered.

Anybody has the slightest idea of what I am on about? Lol

That's ok if you don't, I haven't got an idea of what I just said either.

EDIT: I *think* now that the thing they set out to find was some sort of flower in order to help the princess? And I remember them just getting back in time on flying carpets at night and start fighting.

reply

I think that one is Arabian Adventure - but i'm not sure.

reply

I actually believe this is the Golden Voyage of Sinbad...just watched it a week ago...on tv

reply

OMG thank you so much Big G, you just made my day ;) now im going to go try and find the dvd.

reply

You are quite welcome wannabes.

As for Niello, you have me stumped.

To me that sound a lot like THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1961) starring muscleman Steve Reeves, who is on a journey to find a fabled blue rose in order to cure a princess. But he never rode a flying carpet. Instead he rode a Persian Pegasus. And he never was accompanied by a monkey either.

That’s what has me stumped. And I can’t think of anything involving a monkey and a magic carpet. The only thing that comes to mind is ALAKAZAM THE GREAT (1961), but that’s an animated feature about a monkey with magical powers going on a pilgrimage with a prince and other characters, and during their journey they encounter the villainous King Gruesome, a sort of devil bull, who wants to kidnap the prince.

reply

Here is what I am looking for, would be great if anyone could help me,
because its indeed driving me insane!

The Scene: sinbad (or some other heroes) are on a ship, some skeletons or
monsters or whatever are coming out of the sky, which has turned pitchblack...
They battle, and sinbad kills one of those monsters by ripping out its pulsating
heart, that looks like a glowing skull....

Saw it on TV sometime.... hope you can help me!!!!

reply

What you described does sound a lot like JACK THE GIANT KILLER (1962), with Kerwin Mathews (who also played Sinbad in THE 7TH VOYAGE), as the hero named Jack. He’s on ship, escorting a princess to safety, when all of a sudden, they are confronted by these witch demons (and pretty scary looking for what is suppose to be family movie!). Out of the sky they come, and everything does indeed turn darker.

However, nowhere in these scenes, does it have Jack ripping out the pulsating heart of one of these creatures that looks like a glowing skull. So bottom line, it may or may not be JACK THE GIANT KILLER.

reply

Here's another:

I remember at night a boy sleeping under a tree, or near a castle, and he sinks underground or is pulled underground. Another scene has the hero (Sinbad?) fighting with a lot of men whose faces are covered with cloth, or who have no eyes, noses, or mouths for some reason. Anyone know which movie? Thanks!

That one has me stumped. Sinking or being pulled underground, there are only two movies with that scenario that come to mind for me and they are INVADERS FROM MARS (1953) and THE MOLE PEOPLE (1957). As for the hero fighting men with no faces, that, I can't think of anything.

Tantalus2001, Ibelieve the film you recall may be a version of Thief of Bagdad from the Sixties, starring Steve Reeves. He battles faceless men, siren women, walking trees and a bald wrestler ogre, passing through 7 Magic Doors "... which can be seen only where they are not. " in order to retrieve a blue rose to cure his ailing princess amour. He rides an animated Pegasus back to Bagdad and fights the army of the evil Brassier with a club-weilding army of clones. A long time ago, but it was fun. An Italian/US co-production.

reply

With the pulsating skull heart you are talking about the 1982? version of Sinbad starring Lou Ferrigno. Very bad movie.

Yup - not Harryhausen but still one of my fave from the genre. I remember 'Eye of the Tiger' with great fondness (prolly due to the sheer number of times it's been shown on tv) but recently got hold of an XviD rip of 'Jack' - how good is it?

Those scenes with the flying witches attacking the ship scared the bejesus out of me as a child. Still pretty freaky to watch today.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. ;)

I have opinions of my own, but I don't always agree with them - George Bush

It's maybe The Golden Voyage of Sinbad...
But to save a heap of trouble, if you haven't already brought it, I recommend going to DVD Empire and buying the three pack(IT'S CALLED "THE SINBAD COLLECTION" it includes; The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Sinbad of the Seven Seas and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, my favourite), though in order to watch them, just buy a cheap multi region DVD player from Dicksmith's if there's one where you're from, because they might not be made for your region, unless you live in America.

Hope this helps...

The mechanized mountain, the monkey and the flying carpet all are in "Arabian Adventure" (1979), which someone mentioned several posts earlier but didn't add any details.

The cast includes Oliver Tobias as the hero, Puneet Sira as a boy who joins the adventure~along with his pet monkey (if I recall), Emma Samms as the damsel who is the daughter of evil magician Christopher Lee, who once more co-stars with Peter Cushing. Other standouts are Milo O'Shea, Capucine, Mickey Rooney as the old man who creates the mechanical trickery, and John Ratzenberger (Yes~Cliff of "Cheers").

I shrug off the attacks of those who have lost their sense of wonder~if they ever had any in the first place. I LOVE this film and am grateful that I have a videotape copy from when it aired on a movie channel way back when. I've watched it a number of times but, sadly, not for a number of years, so my memories of it have faded. What a treat: Oliver Tobias as the swashbuckling, handsome hero!

I think everyone has identified all of the other scenes/films. I wanted to help verify this one.

Well this sounds like a slightly fuzzy memory of the final battle between the bad guy and the "Jackal Boy" in the conclusion of I MADMAN.The jackal Boy isn't a skeleton, but very very thin and was a stop motion creation of Randall William Cook.

Go to this site if you remember a monster from an old movie that you need the name of.
http://www.harryhausen.com/
It has the ones from the Sinbad movies too.

I need help identifying a Sinbad-type movie that I saw as a kid. It had an evil sultan in a fortress (don't they all?). I remember two very unique aspects of the film: #1-The evil sultan couldn't be killed with swords because his heart was outside his body, kept in a secret room in the castle. #2-There was this dangerous swamp outside the sultan's caste with these nasty suckholes that swallowed up the hero's men. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

That's it! Thanks very much.

reply

I have a question as well, although the creature may have been a giant, rather than a cyclops. Back in the 70's, I saw a movie where a giant being caught and picked up a human, bit his head off and tossed him aside. He may have said something like, "These Greeks are a tough and stringy lot," although I may be combining two different movies. I just thought it was a pretty brutal scene for those days and I've never seen it again. Any ideas?

It was this movie:

Thanks for the reply. I guess my memory must have filled in the part where you saw the cyclops bite the guys head off. Either that, or that clip was edited.

reply

I saw the English Dub when I was a kid & I never saw him 'bite' the guy, but I do remember him mentioning how stringy & tough he found their flesh.

That Golden Voyage of Sinbad was the best of the three and I sure wish they would've kept John Phillip Law as Sinbad in the third one. Patrick Wayne was terrible. Law would've at least made it cooler had he been back.
