Cancellation after one season by CBS Television

Years back, I saw Jock Mahoney interviewed on local television. He was asked why such a quality show as YANCY DERRINGER was cancelled. Mahoney said, with more than a touch of bitterness, it was becaue CBS wanted to buy a controlling interest in the show, and he and his partners were not willing to sell. So, CBS cancelled it.

I've only seen one --the Christmas show-- and it was pretty bad.

Not a good episode, I'll grant you. But it wasn't typical either. See some more episodes and you might be pleasantly surprised. It was a very individual show that did not conform to the pattern of most frontier/western shows of the era.

I found the last scene touching. My first experience with Yancy Derringer was an episode scripted by alvin Sapinsley ("V for Vashon," "Pickman's Model"), and I was blown away. I also wouldn't use any of the Coles Trapnell episodes I've seen so far to form an opinion on the series, although "Panic in the Streets" was pretty good.
