Record for the most guest appearances?

Might be the familiar character actor John Anderson, who was in eleven Rifleman episodes, always as a different character. Any takers?

John Anderson is tied with John Milford for most episodes.
Both have 11.

Wow. Well done, Ma'am.

Archie Butler, if he counts as a guest star, he was in 20+ episodes as different characters

John Anderson has also shown up in many episodes of 'Laramie', which I've been working my way through recently.

I always enjoy the episodes with Royal Dano, who didn't come close to 11 appearances, but appeared in 5. The episode where he 'impersonated' Abe Lincoln is a favorite.

Why not just go to the full cast and crew page? The first non-regular will be there. Do you consider Joe Benson to be a regular? He appeared in 42 episodes.

John Anderson is one of my personal favorites. He played on many westerns from villains to good guys. He also played an immortal being, a "Dowd" on Star Trek:TNG and a company chief on Emergency.

MsLexy settled the question above -- but off the top of my head, I would have guessed the great John Anderson first, and perhaps the wonderful Peter Whitney next.

Since Sam Peckinpah is my most favorite writer/director, it was gratifying when my future wife told me on our first dinner date that her favorite TV series is The Rifleman (which Peckinpah created). But I mention this only because Whitney and Anderson star together in one of my wife's favorite episodes, the delightful "Mail Order Groom."

Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.
