What Version...???

Hi, can anybody tell me what version of "quartermass and the pit" im looking for?

as i know there was a movie made of it. and also a tv series, but from what i have seen of the 1958 tv series and also the color film made of "quartermass and the pit" i kinda remember a different ending from childhood.... and its not the same in either the tv series or the color film made... let me explain

the ending i remember from childhood has our hero climbing a crane... but he doesnt "operate" the crane into the giant alien figure moving towards him... but he kinda climbs down to a lower platform in the crane and swings the cranes hook into the giant ghostly alien figure.

ive seen the colour film and the 1958 series (think it was the 1958 series)... in the black and white series i saw... the hero kinda throws something towards the ghostly alien .. but doesnt climb any kinda crane, and in the film i saw... our hero kinda operates the cranes bow into a "green" ghostly alien figure.. but the version im after is our hero climbs a crane.. then climbs down to a lower platform and then swings the cranes hook into a "white" ghostly aliens face..... has anybody got any idea what version of "quartermass and the pit" im talking about????

as i said ive seen both the 1958 series and the movie that was made.... was any other version made? if so the "version" i saw.. was shown on british tv... somewhere between the late 70's very early 80's... ive seen both the tv series and the movie.. but neither is the ending i remember.... (tv show)one ending doenst have a crane.. and not much of an alien.. the other (the movie) has the crane... but the ghostly alien figure is green.. (not the white face i remember) and he kinda operates the crane into the alien.....unlike the version i remember where he swings the cranes hook into the ghostly alien

does anybody else remember this version? and if so... would they be so kind to give me the information about it?

thank you for your help !!!

Um....

I'm fairly certain that's the conclusion to the colour film version Hammer released in 1967.

Our brave hero was the Matthew Roney character, played by James Donald in between Bridge on the River Kwai/Great Escape and a guest appearance in Fawlty Towers. British character actors have to be versatile, huh!

Doesn't sound like it's 'Quatermass and the Pit' at all. Could be a Jon Pertwee 'Doctor Who' story maybe 'The Daemons' which is akin to Q&TP, having said that I'm not a great DW fan, maybe someone else can help?

The Hammer film ends with the crane being swung into the devilish apparition.

I dont think was anything to do with Doc Who...i recall seeing a film the 60s about an object found 100s of feet under London...the people involved in the film find a way in...then the horror starts...people run...covering their ears...from the the shaft that had been dug down to the object large insect like creatures was emerging...some setteled on buildings and seamed to survey the world around them...then the credits came up...this film was in B/W

ScribeAndButt,

I was directed to Quatermass & The Pit from the I Need To Know board- I had been searching for years (decades) for a film involving giant "grasshoppers" attacking, and a scene where a military commader's face melts off in a bunker, possibly from a nuclear bomb. After watching the 1967 Hammer Quatermass & The Pit... it seemed like the right movie, but not quite. I haven't been able to find the 1958 serial to watch yet.

But yours and the OP's post has me second guessing... could there be another version? I was so young, but it felt like the attacking grasshoppers were what was being fought in the version I remember...

(It is not "The Beginning Of The End" with Peter graves, I am all too familiar with that movie.)

Do you remember any other scenes?

Thanks!

Giant grasshoppers... hmmm.
(So it's not THE BEGINNING OF THE END (1957), although that movie has giant grasshoppers.)

Then maybe THE DEADLY MANTIS (1957)? Other flying monstersized insects.

I think that the 1958 BBC Quatermass might be what you're looking for... You can view all the old TV Quatermasses on Archive Org.
