The Carrier

I'm watching it now. Sandy Dennis has just visited a Bossa Nova club with Anthony Zerbe, and the tune sounded a lot like " I Believe I Just Got the Goodbye Look", by Donald Fagen on 'The Nightfly'. I may be off on the title, but not by much. Anyone else notice this, or who can speak to it? Donald?

I heard three different tunes in that scene at the dance place. The first one I didn't recognize. I found an example of "I Believe I Just Got the Goodbye Look" and I don't think that is it.

And it is not the second one which I recognize but don't know the name of.

The third tune is "One Note Samba" which was originally heard during a similar scene in Man Without a Skin about nine episodes before this. In that one it appeared that the combo shown was actually playing the tune. In an episode somewhere between these two it was used again in a scene where it was either on a phonograph or radio. In all three episodes it sounded like the same recording.

I guess it's the sort of riff that could show up in a lot of different songs without necessarily being "borrowed". Thanks for your detailed reply.
