Forgot how good this series was

Hard to turn off an episode once it starts. Top notch guest stars (GC Scott, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Warden, Jean Stapleton, Lilia Scala to name a few), made it almost like a short feature film. Filmed mostly in the streets of NYC which gave it a touch of realism.

Great show, and classic footage of old NY.

agreed--I have never seen a bad episode of the hour long version. And I love how one week the episode would be light a comical, but the next week it could be about multiple grisly crimes.

Great show

Fantastic series -- superbly written, superbly acted, superbly directed, superbly filmed. When younger viewers born long after the fact see episodes, they're amazed at the emotional complexity & literary brilliance of the stories ... and with good reason.

When it comes to crime shows, Naked City is the best I've seen. I was to young to appreciate it when it first aired and I didn't think about it again until I discovered that Hulu was carrying it. As you said, Owlwise, a well written series that those who write crime dramas today should watch to see how to write characters that are real. Today you get show that focus's on how smart the officers that solve the case are. I just finished an episode of Naked City, where the police didn't have a clue. The story focused on the woman who committed the crime and how she thought it would change her life. It did, but how she thought. You get a good look at what drove her to crime and the reality that it was not the answer to her problems. I can why I tire of watching today's crime shows after finding this program.

I agree. Filming in black & white added to the necessary moodiness. Color TV really didn't start going mainstream until the mid sixties. Some feel that when The Fugitive went to color, some of its impact was reduced. Some also felt that this series got a little too pretty.
I like color, but there are times when I enjoy looking at a black and white picture.
