Same Plot, Different Title!

Hmmmmmmm. . . Anyone notice that S1/E38 (16 Jun. 1959: The Canvas Bullet) and S4/E6 (24 Oct. 1962: Five Cranks for Winter... Ten Cranks for Spring) are the exact same plot, but produced under different titles and using different character names?

S4 Synopsis: Former contender Johnny Meigs, eking out a living after a brain injury, pleads to go back in the ring, to get money to send his unknowing wife Kathy to compete in a floral show in Baltimore. Crooked boxing manager Gus Slate lines up an elderly, alcoholic physician to give Meigs a passing physical. (Everything is identical to the S1 plot--boxer with 'timebomb' head risks it all to acquire money for wife to attend flower show in Baltimore.)

S1 Couple:
Harry Guardino ...Johnny Mills
Diane Ladd ...Kathie Mills

S4 Couple:
Shirley Knight ...Kathy Meigs
Robert Duvall ...Johnny Meigs

Any idea as to WHY this was done?

At any rate, I love this show (treated myself to the complete box set (under $50-Amazon) for the holidays). "Cut-the-Cord" in October from my horrible, overpriced cable company and couldn't be happier! Between Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, SmartTV/streaming and my own video collection, I'm saving HUNDREDS of dollars in money--and the lack of aggravation is PRICELESS!

"Remakes" happen in TV from time to time. The Avengers and Bewitched are shows where this happened several times. In The Avengers, some Honor Blackman episodes were remade as color Diana Rigg episodes, and in Bewitched, some black-and-white Dick York episodes were remade as Dick Sargent episodes. It can also happen cross-series when both shows have the same producer; for example, some Sea Hunt episodes were remade as Flipper episodes.
