The soap world lost one of its veteran greats this week as actor Peter Brown passed away on March 21.

The 80-year-old actor starred actor on several daytime soaps, including One Life to Live (Charles Sanders), Days of Our Lives (Dr. Greg Peters), The Young and the Restless (Robert Laurence), and The Bold and the Beautiful (Blake Hayes).

According to Soap Opera Digest, family Alison Reynolds made the initial announcement by saying, “My dear friend, actor Peter Brown, died today with his loving wife Kerstin by his side.”

Brown was born in New York City on October 5, 1935. During his younger years he served as part of the 2nd Infantry in the United States Army, and after returning home studied drama at the University of California.

His big break came while working at a gas station on the Sunset Strip when he struck up an unlikely conversation with Warner Brothers mogul Jack L. Warner while servicing his vehicle. This stroke of luck led to Brown auditioning for the studio the very next day. He almost immediately became a contract player for Warner Brothers.

The accomplished actor entertained audiences for nearly 50 years, starring in over 100 movies and television shows. Brown is best known for his roles as Marshal Dan Troop in the western television series Lawman from 1958-1962, and as Texas Ranger Chad Cooper on the show Laredo from 1965-1967.

Brown leaves behind his wife Kerstin Kern, whom he wed in 2008, and his children Joshua and Christi.
