Forgotten Classic
I caught this on 'Talking Pictures last night-watched it for a few minutes, but I was ready to turn it off and watch the Voyager episodes I have queuing up after recording. But this movie got to me.... from the first few seconds of the zooming camerawork-I thought, hang on-this is more than just a little 'b' movie. Then after ten minutes I was hooked. The acting and dialogue were first class. The main actress, Yvonne Mitchell playing the doting wife is wonderful. Its difficult not to feel sorry for her-she plays it so masterfully. It feels unfair as she is certainly not frumpy or ugly (she was 42 at the time but looked 32).
I had to stay up to the last second of this wonderful old English film. There was great support too, in the shape of Sylvia Syms and Anthony Quayle. Robin Ray is good as the young son too.
