A coupe of interesting 'goofs'

In the scene where the Army is celebrating it's upcoming around the world flight, Spig (JW), John Dale Price (Ken Curtis), and several other Naval officers are going into the Army Officer's Club.

They go to the bar and grab the drinks that the bartender has poured for the Army officers (and proceed to drink them!), and spy a bucket of long-neck beers on ice sitting behind the bar. JW makes a big fuss (albeit for show and the fun of the other Navy officers) about it being prohibition, and takes the bucket of beers to the front door, and hands it to Jughead (Dan Dailey) & Arizona (Tige Andrews). Notice that as they came onto the porch, there were two Army Non-Comms there...

In the banquet hall, Capt. Hazard (Ken Tobey) is giving his speech about if there is a winner (Army), there must also be a loser (Navy), so JW (and the Navy) comes in, throws the cake on him and a fight breaks out.

In thie crowd of Army officers, one can clearly see Fred Graham (with a mustache, no less!), a long time Ford Stock company member and stunt guy, and Bob Morgan, another long time FSC member, and stunt man. When the fight breaks out, the 2nd Army officer JW puches is Fred Graham, and it shows a tightly framed shot of Fred standing still, nearly cross-eyed after he's punched, right before he falls down. You know the shot - directors have used them 1,000 times.

In a cut-away scene inter-mingled with all of this, Ford goes back to the front porch, where Jughead and Arizona are talking to the two Army Non-Comms, and they're drinking the beers JW handed them just minutes before. They're toasting to Spig and the Navy. Then Jughead & Arizona start puching these two dogfaces, who happen to be...Fred Graham, and Bob Morgan!!!!

The lighting on the porch of the Officer's Club was a bit dark, of course, but it's VERY clear as to who they were...

I've seen this movie about 6 or 7 times, and noticed it before, but never CONFIRMED it until just the other night when I saw it, and it was SO obvious, I couldn't really believe this was what I was seeing...I'll bet Ford INTENDED it to be that way to see if anyone was really paying attention, but that's just me.

One other thing...In the scene where the Navy is celebrating THEIR victory in the Schneider Cup, there's a group of Naval officers sitting around the table getting ready to eat cake, and who should be there in a NAVY unifrom?!?!

Bob Morgan!!!

BTW - this is just a few short years before Bob suffered a near-fatal stunt accident doubling for George Peppard in the train scene (where the logs come loose). He was disfigured for life as a result of this, and THIS is the reason his then-wife Yvonne DeCarlo had to take the role of Lily Munster to pay his sizable medical bills.

Bob can be seen in later Duke movies playing bit parts, and a bartender in at least one of the westerns from the late 60's or early 70's...

I hope this was informative...
