Jeep Carriers

The scene were Spig Wead comes up with the idea for Jeep Carriers is pure fiction. The idea of converting merchant hulls into small carriers had been discussed before WW2.In fact, the USS Long Island, the US Navy's first escort carrier, was commissioned before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. I am not saying Wead wasn't involved in the discussion of escort carriers, just that the idea had been well established long before the US got into the war, which is not the way it is depicted in this movie.
