Comments on TMC's 'Screened Out' showing

I too just saw part of TMC's "Screened Out" special showing of "Voodoo Island," in which one subplot was a lesbian interior decorator, Claire Winter, played by Jean Engstrom, keeps hitting on the female lead, Beverly something, who plays Boris Karloff's secretary. To me, Beverly bears a resemblance to Virginia Madsen.
And yes, that is a young Adam West in the radio room and sitting in the jeep by himself as the plane takes off! Wow!
It is so cool that the lesbian character was just very forwardly there -- and she wasn't a villain or a monster.
Now I want to read the book, "Screened Out" by Richard Barrios (sp?). It's too late to stay up but someday I will rent "Voodoo Island" to see the whole thing.

you know if i hadn't have seen the commentsby robert osborn and richard barrios i probably would never have caught on to the fact that she was a lesbian,it's pretty suttle (in my opinion).

Me too. But having seen the prefilm comments I noticed how the woman kept dismissing the men's attempts to hit on her. The scene when she very nicely and sweetly asks Gunn for a ciggarette and once she get's it, tells him to get lost. I laughed.

I did some internet research - seems like they made a lesbian version of this summer, and a version where the lesbian stuff, subtle or not, was edited out. There was a theory that one version was meant for a European audience. Could it be that the lesbian subplot version was for the Europeans, hence that version got past the Production Code people? Wondering if Richard Barrios addresses that in his book?
