Just an excellent horror movie.

Seven years ago I made a thread on this board BEGGING somebody to direct me to where I could find me a copy of this movie... Seven years later after wearing the VHS that I bought OUT I have to say this movie is extremely under-appreciated and definitely deserves more respect than it's gotten in the past 54 years. Does anyone else agree?

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

reply

No. But it is ok for its time.

Let it be unsaid: insignificance is the locus of true increpation.

great B MOVIE,and its stolen by dabbs greer in his scenes with his assistant,henry..like something wes anderson would do..i used to watch it on tv back in the early 60s,but even as a young boy i appreciated how cool and offbeat those scenes were..and any flick with kenneth tobey is worth seeing

Hi, saw this movie for the very first time on TCM last night. Dont know how Ive missed this one, as I am a regular viewer of 1950s horror flicks.

I agree with both original poster and irishtom. This movie really captures the essence and excitement of the 1950s horror genre. Great movie.

Has a solid, typical storyline, and backed up by some terrific character actors as the aforementioned Dabbs Greer and Kenneth Tobey. And let's not forget Paul Brinegar either, just about a year or two before he would begin his long stint on Rawhide.

And of course the beautiful damsel in distress, Coleen Gray, to "round out" the line-up, lol.

Big thumbs up!

Not a bad flick at all. How I missed this as a kid back in the '70s I'll never know. Beal was really good.

I saw what you did there. 😉

No blah, blah, blah!

I taped this film off TCM years ago and watched it yesterday for the first time. Where has this film been all my life? Why have I read nothing about it anywhere? It's excellent! Beautifully acted, written and directed. It's a parable about addiction mixed with a Jekyll/Hyde-style monster tale. Beal is superb as a doctor who becomes addicted to these strange pills he inadvertently took. When he goes through withdrawal, it's startling in its realism. Why did he not have a bigger career?

Definitely a good little "B" movie from the 50's. I still love the Sci-Fi and horror movies of the 50's. They may be low budget but they were interesting and well done without being the pretentious big budget crap they make today. Just because they were low budget doesn't mean they couldn't have good writing, directing and acting.
