I watched "Up in Smoke" this morning on TCM. I agree that Byron Foulger was great as Satan. And Huntz Hall was his usual funny self.

I noticed another modififed Three Stooges gag in this one. It was the one where Moe tells Larry to do something, Larry turns to Curley and tells him to do it, and then Curley turns and starts to tell someone else to do, but then stops, snaps his fingers, and says "No man again." Or maybe it's "Low man again." I can't remember for sure. These later Bowery Boys movies seemed to use a lot of the Stooges material in their gags.

Agreed, like in The Bowery Boys Meet the Monster and Sach asks Slip 'what about plugs for my ears incase you snore?' and Slip replied 'it just so happens that I do not snore, I know because I stayed awake all night to see if I did and I didn't'. I don't know the name of the 3 Stooges short but it came from there first.

They sure do. The last 4-5 films must use a dozen or more Stooge gags.

And maybe that was their saving grace because by that time, with Leo gone, they just weren't as good, they needed something to draw the laughs in because Duke wasn't doing it.

In defense of Duke,it was tough to replace Leo G.but the boys soldiered on and Huntz was strong in his silly comedic way to help it along;

but,alas,the series was definitely losing steam....

The guy who wrote this and a lot of Bowery Boy flicks was Elwood Ullman who also wrote a bunch of Stooges shorts.

Ladies and gentlemen, here he is Mr. Warmth himself, the one, the only - Mr. Don Rickles!
