House in Christchurch?

Ann left for Oklahoma. Evelyn married and went to Auckland. Delia....I won't spoil it. Barbara went to Wellington to go to the USA with Major Harding. Barbara only had a few hours (minutes?) to pack and get to Wellington. Who got the house in Christchurch? I know, I know, it's only a movie.

I watched this movie for the very first time on TCM about a half hour ago . That's an excellent question Tim-O-T . I actually had not given much thought to what was going to happen to the house while the others were away . Perhaps it was one or two ways here ( so to speak ? ) . The house was paid for in full , the family owns it out right , and maybe like some people who own a summer house they were just going to close it all up ( like Barbara or Evelyn ? ) until one of them decides to return again one day . I assumed maybe Evelyn's stay in Auckland with her new husband ( forgot his name at the moment ) was only going to be temporary and then they would go back to the house in Christchurch . Just all wild guesses here of course . Thanks Tim-O-T for your subject post .

One thought I had, not knowing the judicial system of New Zealand, was if Delia's husband, Shiner, got off because of the 7 men Delia had been with while Shiner was off at war. That being said, maybe he wound up with the house. Perish the thought!!!

Oh no hadn't thought of that either . That would have been terrible . Just another nightmare for that poor family to endure with what they had been though already . I agree Tim-O-T " Perish the thought!!! " . lol

I think McPhail & Gadsby got the house in Christchurch and spent the next decade or so practising their plummy English accents to do justice to the misread Christchurch accents in the movie.
